Besullo, tradition and culture

Besullo preserves intact its charm of yesteryear and the purity of the typical constructions of western Asturias.

Besullo had an important list of "ferreiros" that is to say, artisans of the traditional iron industry, and at present, on the right bank of the river El Pumar, the only mallet in operation in the region is preserved.

This charming village perched on a hill can boast of many things and one of the most notable is to be the place where the great and famous playwright Alejandro Casona was born. The Besullo Visitor Reception Center, dedicated to the memory of the author of the generation of 27 Alejandro Casona, is located in the old schools of the village.

In recognition of its qualities, Besullo received in 2.022 the award of Village of the Year in the "cultural" category, an award granted by LA NUEVA ESPAÑA and its publishing group Prensa Ibérica.
Besullo was the cradle of Protestantism in Asturias. Catholics and Protestants lived together in perfect harmony until the end of the evangelical community in January 2014, when Dina Rodríguez, the last Protestant in Besullo, died.
